ORIGINAL DENNY CREEK MARKER DEDICATION, 1930

I've traveled on this highway over a hundred times and never stopped to look at this historical marker. Until now. A nice little piece of history about one of Oregon's first explorers in Klamath County. It was originally dedicated back in 1930 by the Eulalona Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution at a different location and then replaced here and rededicated in 1955. The marker reads:

DENNY CREEK
HERE
JOHN C. FREMONT

CAMPED ON HIS SECOND
JOURNEY OF EXPLORATION
IN MAY OF 1846, WAS ATTACKED
BY INDIANS AND LOST THREE MEN
FOR ONE OF WHOM HE NAMED
THE STREAM

Denny Creek flows from some springs about 1/2 a mile south from the marker, on private property and is only accessible via a gated private ranch road which once was the original 'Old Hwy 140', The marker was re-routed the same year the plaque was moved and re-dedicated in 1955 at its present location along the current Hwy 140.
