Le premier pont bâti à cet endroit remonte à 1875, soit l'année où fut ouverte la route de la côte St-Paul à laquelle il donnait accès. Ce pont avait été érigé pour permettre le passage des gens de St-Tite vers St-Stanislas, St-Narcisse et vice-versa. Après la fondation de St-Séverin en 1889, le nombre d'utilisateurs avait grandement diminué, et le reste de la population jugeait ce pont peu utile pour la paroisse.
En 1891, François-Xavier Bordeleau (cadastre n°169 à St-Séverin), son fils Théothime et son frère Basilide (cadastre n°167 et 168), en accord avec d'autres habitants du côté nord de la Rivière des Envies, présentent une demande afin de faire réparer le pont Bordeleau. Selon eux, grâce à ce pont leurs enfants peuvent se rendre en quelques minutes à l'école située sur le côté sud, tandis que sans lui, ils seraient obligés de faire un détour de plus de 2 milles (3/4 de lieue).
Un an plus tard, le conseil municipal ferme le pont suite au rapport du surintendant spécial, Alphonse Lanouette. Peu après, cependant, le conseil est blâmé pour cette fermeture, et doit payer une amende de 16,35$. Le pont est reconstruit en 1895 pour la somme de 240$, et ce, aux frais de la municipalité. Par contre, l'entretien régulier demeure toujours la responsabilité des utilisateurs. En 1915, Hormidas Trépanier reçoit 550$ pour rebâtir le pont, lequel est de nouveau reconstruit, puis coiffé d'un toit en 1932 par le ministère de la Colonisation.
Selon le livre du centenaire de St-Séverin1, le ministère des Affaires culturelles (maintenant devenu le ministère de la Culture et des Communications) aurait remit le pont à neuf en 1978, puis l'aurait déclaré site historique. Mais un article récent paru dans Le Nouvelliste nous apprend qu'il n'en est rien. Espérons que cette désignation ne saurait tarder, car, 25 ans plus tard, le pont a bien besoin de rénovations en plus d'assurer sa préservation pour les générations à venir.

The first bridge built in this location dates back to 1875, the year was opened the coast road to St Paul which gave access. This bridge was built to allow passage of people from St-Tite to St. Stanislaus, St. Narcissus and vice versa. After the founding of St. Severin in 1889, the number of users had greatly diminished, and the rest of the population thought the bridge of little use to the parish.
In 1891, Francis Xavier Bordeleau (Cadastre No. 169 in St-Severin), his son and his brother Théothime Basilides (Cadastre No. 167 and 168), in agreement with other inhabitants of the north side of the River Envies applying to repair the bridge Bordeleau. According to them, thanks to that bridge their children can go in minutes to the school located on the south side, while without it they would have to make a detour of more than 2 miles (3/4 of a mile).
A year later, the City Council close the bridge following the report of the Special Superintendent, Alphonse Lanouette. Soon after, however, the board is blamed for the closure, and must pay a fine of $ 16.35. The bridge was rebuilt in 1895 for the sum of $ 240, and the expense of the municipality. By cons, regular maintenance remains the responsibility of users. In 1915, Trepanier Hormidas receives $ 550 to rebuild the bridge, which was again rebuilt and roofed in 1932 by the Department of Colonization.
According to the Centennial Book of St. Séverin1, the Department of Cultural Affairs (now the Ministry of Culture and Communications) would put the bridge to nine in 1978 and reportedly said the historic site. But a recent article in The Nouvelliste teaches us that it is not. Hope this designation will be soon, because, 25 years later, the bridge needs a lot of renovations in addition to ensuring its preservation for future generations.
