This historic Masonic Building is one of a group of 19th-century commercial buildings on Second St. near the historic Public Square with the Ohio River beyond.

This building is contained within the Gallipolis Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is described on the National Register of Historic Places
Registration Form as:
"a three story Masonic Lodge with brick and limestone storefronts
(probably dating from the early 1930s when the building was expanded), "Masonic Building" in a stone inset in the facade and diamond-patterned brick parapet"
In front of the Building is Ohio Historic Marker 2-27 with the following text:
"Morning Dawn Lodge No. 7 Free and Accepted Masons"
"Morning Dawn" was the first lodge to be chartered, on January 5, 1810, by the Grand Lodge of Ohio. Andrew Lewis was the first Worshipful Master. Meetings were originally held in J. B. Ferrard's house on the north corner of Locust and Third Streets. In 1816 the lodge moved to the Gallia Academy building on the west corner of State and Second streets."
