In Taunton, at its center, is the Taunton Green.
The green is a typical common found in New England towns. The shape is roughly square and has sidewalks lining the edge and forming a cross from the corners to a fountain in the center. Also on the common are several monuments. Two of them are of figures dressed in the military uniform of their day. Another monument is a historical plaque about an event in the early 1800s where General David Cobb repelled sympathizers of the Shays Rebellion. In the spring, ornamental trees flower.
