1936 granite Texas Historical Marker recording that Colonel William G. Cooke and his men camped here in 1840 on their Military Road Expedition. Located in a traffic triangle at the intersection of Ewing and Clarendon Avenues, outside the Dallas Zoo.

To the memory of Colonel William G. Cooke and forty other members of the Regular Army, Republic of Texas, who camped in this vicinity in October, 1840 while locating the Central National Highway. The importance of this military road in the history of Dallas will not be forgotten. Erected by the State of Texas 1936
