In addition to connecting to the Finger Lakes Trail at the south end, the Genesee Greenway Trail connects to the Erie Canal Heritage Trail, which uses the old towpaths on a roughly East-West axis, and with the Genesee Riverway Trail, which extends an additional 18 miles north to Lake Ontario. It also intersects the Lehigh Valley Trail, which is another Rails-to-Trails project. It is officially managed as a New York State Park.

The Friends of Genesee Greenway Trails website (Finding the Greenway) (visit link) recommends starting in the swimming pool parking lot of Genesee Valley Park, and following the Genesee Riverway Trail to the trailhead. The parking coordinates listed below are to a parking area designated for trail users. To traverse the Riverway Trail from end-to-end from there would require that you hike north for about 1 mile to reach the trailhead, and double back to the parking area, and continue south from there. (Sight of an old railroad bridge makes it a worthwhile "detour", I assure you - see default picture.)
