Main square of the city Kolín - Karlovo námestí (Charles' square) was generally reconstructed during 2006 - 2007. A new pavement was laid over the whole square. As a decorative part of the pavement, a compass rose mosaic made from coloured granite cubes was installed in northwest corner of the square, just in front of city's Town Hall. The compass rose is about 7 meters, i.e. almost 12 feet, in diameter and the cardinal points are, unusualy for Czech tradition, denoted according to English convention (N,E,S,W instead of Czech S,V,J,Z).
