You can always tell when the Stampede is happening from the increase in pedestrian traffic downtown and the number of cars that miss the no turn signs and try to tackle a CTrain. For two kilometres, this in-street section of the C-Train shares the 'road' wth buses and emergency vehicles. It has been a free fare zone since it opened on May 25, 1981.

The total length of the C-Train system is 47.1 km, 5% grade separated, 8% underground. There are 26 major stations with 11 side loading platforms in the downtown core.

The C-Train operated for 183,000 hours in 2011. See: (visit link)
