Memorial to Tooele Smelter

The International Smelting and Refining Company, a subsidiary of the Anaconda Company,
began construction of a copper smelter on December 9, 1908. Utah Governor William Spry
kindled the first smelter fire on July 15, 1910.
The new smelter began operation on October 1, 1910. The construction cost was
$2,413,679.90. The plant processed both crude and concentrated ores.
