Atlas Mineral Corp Mill Site - Super Fund Sites on Waymarking.com

During less environmentally-conscious days, over 16 million tons of mill tailings from the processing of uranium ore were piled on the banks of the Colorado River. Toxic substances have been leaching into the river water. The Department of Energy has embarked on an ambitious project to capture the leachate before it reaches the river and move the massive amount of material to a specially designed disposal site 30 miles to the north. The project may not be completed until about 2025.
