South San Francisco is the home of Genentech, the company the is considered the founder of the biotechnology industry.

This sign is located on a median strip of Grand Avenue. It is visible coming from either direction. The sign has a simple 3-D model of a DNA spiral winding through the sign with text. The whole sign is surrounded by circular tubing which is supported by two posts on the side. On the bottom of the circular tubing are the words "Sponsored by Genentech".
