"Tod von Altötting (kurz: Tod zu Ötting, dem Standarddeutschen angepasst auch Tod von Ötting; bairisch: Tod z' Eding bzw. Tod vo Eding) ist der Name einer populären, mechanischen Statue in der Stiftspfarrkirche St. Philipp und Jakob in Altötting. Die 50 cm hohe Skelettfigur aus versilbertem Holz steht auf der etwa sieben Meter hohen Schrankuhr aus dem 17. Jahrhundert (Pestzeit, um 1634), die sich neben dem Nordportal befindet. Sie wird 1664 erstmals in einer Reparaturrechnung als Todtenuhr erwähnt. Es handelt sich um eine Darstellung des Todes als Sensenmann, der im Takt der Uhr mäht. The "Death of Altötting" is the name of a popular mechanical statue in the collegiate church of St. Philipp and Jacob in Altoetting. The 1,6 ft. tall skeletal figure from silvered wood is located on a 23 ft. high floor clock from the 17th century (ca. 1634), which is located near the north entrance. It is first mentioned in 1664 on a repair bill as Todtenuhr. It is a representation of death as the Grim Reaper, who mows in the beat of the clock. Legend has it that at every swing of his scythe someone is dying. Wikipedia
