The church was built in 1716 (1693 in older sources) as a replacement for the former St. Peter and Paul Church, demolished in the Thirty Years War. The Slapy village was owned since 1292 by Cistercian monastery in Zbraslav.

The octagonal nave is 18.5m long, 14m wide and 22m high. During major repairs in 1911-1912 there were discovered baroque frescoes - patron saints of Czech lands and of this church. Their author is supposed to be Daniel Pittner.

The church is currently a filial church of Roman Catholic parish in Stechovice.
