The Prince George Hotel in downtown Kingston is a beautiful old building. Charming and inviting during the day but at night its dark secret comes alive. The most tragic of all the ghost story's from Kingston is the story about the girl named Lily Herchmer who lived in a house on this corner before the hotel was built in 1809. Lily was having a love affair with a sailor who often sailed through the Kingston harbor. Her parents were strongly against that relationship so the young couple met in secret. As a signal to her lover Lily would light a lantern in her bedroom. One night while waiting for her sailor Lily fell asleep with the lantern in the window. A strong gust of wind knocked the lantern over and the house and Lily perished in flames. Her ghost is often seen wandering through the halls and rooms of the hotel waiting for her lover.
Enjoy your stay.
