Maxwell Pyenson was born in Otis, MA on December 30, 1916. Maxwell Pyenson was a lifelong resident of Otis. He went to local schools and obtained a B.S. and M.S. from the state agriculture college - now the University of Massachusetts. After World War II he returned home to work in the family business - the Otis Poultry Farm. He assumed ownership of this well known western Massachusetts landmark in 1952.
He was active in community service as: past President of Berkshire County Poultry Association, past Vice President of Berkshire Council Boy Scouts of America, an Otis Selectman for 29 years; elected chairman from 1974 until 1978. He was also a Corporator, Trustee and member of the Board of Investors at Lee Bank. He was active in the Otis Kiwanis Club since its founding where he was former president and treasurer and former Lt. Governor of District 27.
He died in Otis on December 27, 2010 as age 93. An ornate bench has been placed in the town green in his honor. Pyerson was an avid outdoorsman. On one end of the rustic wood bench is the carved head of a male deer on the other side is a leaping salmon. The front of the seat back of the bench has the inscription:
