Nan city is the capital of Nan province in northern Thailand. Two kilometres to the south west of the city is the Buddhist temple, Wat Phra That Khao Noi. This is situated on a hill, Khao Noi (small hill), ~250m high. On the eastern edge of the temple is a large Buddha statue gazing protectively out over the city. This is also a lookout point for the city. From here one can see the western half of Nan, and the city centre, plus a great deal of surrounding land.

Entry to the Wat is free, however, a small donation is always appreciated.

Note, at the time of my visit in mid-March 2012 there was a great deal of smoke from bush fires in the region, thus the city is not visible due to this smoke haze, however, under normal circumstances the city would be visible.
