The origins of this caboose are unknown. It was acquired by the Smithville Community Historical Society (SCHS) in late-2010 along with the adjacent Wheeling-Lake Erie (W&LE) depot, which had been moved to this site in 1975. The interior of the decaying caboose was stripped. The society members decided since trains, and the caboose in particular, were popular with children, they’d put a toy museum inside. Items were moved into the caboose in July 2011.
