Between 1912 and 1914, the landlord Adolf Bauer had a villa built which today bears his name – Bauer’s Villa. The author of the architectural project was the architect Josef Gocár, who designed the house in the new cubist style, which is very unusual for a rural environment. After the death of Adolf Bauer in 1929, the villa passed to his heirs and ten years later it was confiscated as a Jewish property by the protectorate authorities. After World War II, it was the seat of the municipal administration.

The current owner of the villa, the Czech Cubism Foundation, has reconstructed this cultural monument into its original condition. The reconstruction involved the main structure, premises for technical equipment and facilities, and the interior. The Foundation also intends to fulfil Gocár’s original design for fencing the property and to restore the vegetation in the surroundings of the villa.

In the exhibition, it is possible to view many preserved interior elements – in particular bathroom fixtures, fireplace equipment, built-in wooden cupboards and library shelves. The interior is supplemented by period cubist furniture and exhibits of fine and applied arts. On the first floor, there is an exhibition dedicated to the history and reconstruction of the villa, Josef Gocár and Czech cubism in general, and to the modern architectural monuments in the region.

Josef Gocár was a famous Czech architect whose works from the cubist and functionalist periods are considered among the paramount works of modern Czech architecture. His involvement in the urban concepts of certain cities, and especially Hradec Králové, is also highly appreciated.

V letech 1912-14 byla velkostatkárem Adolfem Bauerem vybudována vila, která dnes nese jeho jméno – Bauerova vila. Autorem architektonického projektu byl arch. Josef Gocár, který pro dum užil tehdy nový kubistický styl, který je ve venkovském prostredí velice neobvyklý. Po smrti majitele Adolfa Bauera v roce 1929 prešla vila na jeho dedice, o deset let pozdeji ji jako židovský majetek zabavily protektorátní úrady. Po druhé svetové válce zde sídlila správa obce.

Soucasný vlastník, Nadace ceského kubismu, tuto kulturní památku rekonstruoval do puvodní podoby. Predmetem rekonstrukce se stala vlastní stavba, prostory technického vybavení se zázemím i interiéry. Zámerem Nadace je také realizovat puvodní Gocáruv návrh oplocení pozemku a upravit zelen v okolí vily.

V expozici je možné si prohlédnout dochované prvky interiéru, predevším zarízení koupelny, krbové zarízení, drevenou vestavenou skrín ci knihovnu. Interiér doplnují dobový kubistický mobiliár a exponáty výtvarného a užitého umení. V prvním patre se nachází expozice venovaná historii a rekonstrukci vily, Josefu Gocárovi a ceskému kubismu vubec, a také památkám moderní architektury v regionu.

Josef Gocár byl známý ceský architekt, jehož díla z kubistického a funkcionalistického období patrí k vrcholum ceské moderní architektury. Vysoce ocenován je také jeho podíl na urbanistických koncepcích nekterých mest, zejména Hradce Králové.
