Service dogs require a minimum 18 mos of training, before they are assigned to an officer. This one served with a Yolo County officer, City of Woodland. The dog was born in 1986, went to work in 1990, and died in 1992.

This is an unusual tribute to those partners whose lives are fleeting.
A handler may work with three dogs during his or her career.
They also visit public events to teach children about working dogs.
A badge number is often assigned. Cars are specially marked.
This would be a modern petrosomatoglyph.
