The long distance bus station for the province of Chiang Rai is found to the south of the capital, off the major road into the city. The station is well signposted, large, and fairly busy, as you would expect. Chiang Rai is a major regional city.

In design the station is standard. A long, rectangular, covered waiting area, with seats, shops at one end, tickets at the other. Around this bus bays, twenty bays in total, and further out, tuk tuk and motor bike drivers waiting to convey you around the city.

This station deals with long distance travel, to Bangkok, to the borders of Mynamar, Laos, and Cambodia, as well as to the other regions of Thailand. Shorter journeys depart from the station inside the city.
