This marker made of smooth-faced Tennessee gray marble is dedicated to
23rd Battalion Tennessee Infantry and is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The battalion was organized at camp near Murfreesboro, TN, on November 29, 1862. This is one of two markers to 23rd Tennessee Infantry Regiment on the battlefield. It marks their location at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 20, 1863.

1'6" wide x 1' deep x 3' high, the marker is a rectangular block of smooth-faced Tennessee gray marble inscribed on the front. Marks the unit's position on September 20, 1863, at 11:30 a.m.
