The Windy Point Turnout is located along Teton Park Road about a mile north of Moose, Wyoming. The overlook has a view of the Tetons.
At the viewpoint there are three signs titled “A Glacial Landscape”, “The Outwash Plain” and “Mountain Air”.
From Text of “A Glacial Landscape” sign: “A glacier 3,000 feet thick once filled this valley. Repeatedly, enormous glaciers transported cobbles, gravel, and coarse sand as they advanced. As the glaciers retreated, torrential meltwaters washed and spread the rocky material throughout the valley. Rain and snow percolate rapidly through the cobbles, leaving little moisture for overlying soil. Sage brush identifies this dry outwash plain.”
