"Situé à l'angle du boulevard Maloney Est et de la rue Notre-Dame, un cénotaphe est érigé en 1965 en souvenir des soldats de Gatineau et des environs qui ont sacrifié leur vie pour leur patrie. Ce monument est l'œuvre conjointe de la Ville de Gatineau et de la Filiale Norris (Québec no 227) de la Légion royale canadienne.

Les trois masses de béton représentent les trois guerres : la Première Guerre mondiale, la Seconde Guerre mondiale et la guerre de Corée. Elles symbolisent aussi les trois forces armées : la Marine royale du Canada, l'Armée canadienne et l'Aviation royale du Canada. Ces trois éléments sont réunis sur une même base pour former un complexe harmonieux qui est en accord avec le concept moderne militaire canadien d'une unification des forces armées. Ces éléments s'élèvent en salutation aux forces de l'air, ils sont ancrés au sol en l'honneur de l'armée et sont entourés d'eau en hommage à la marine. La taille gigantesque de ces trois piliers accentue l'importance de ce trio de l'ère moderne, également pour exprimer notre éternelle gratitude à ceux qui ont donné leur vie pour notre patrie."

"This cenotaph was erected at the corner of boulevard Maloney Est and rue Notre-Dame in 1965 to commemorate the soldiers from Gatineau and its surroundings who had given up their lives for their country. This monument was a joint effort between Gatineau and the Royal Canadian Legion's Norris Branch (Quebec no 227).

The three cement blocks represent the three wars: the First World War, the Second World War and the Korean War. They also symbolize the three armed forces: the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force. These three components are brought together on a single foundation to form a harmonious complex that is in tune with the modern Canadian military concept of unified armed forces. These elements rise in salute to the air force, are anchored to the ground in honour of the army and are surrounded by water in tribute to the navy. The enormous dimensions of the three pillars accentuate the importance of this trio in modern times, and express our eternal gratitude to those who gave up their lives for our country."

Description of Memorial: Le cénotaphe est une structure en ciment mesurant environ 30 pieds de haut. Il est peint en jaune et se trouve dans un petit parc à proximité d'une église locale. Les plaques, dont le texte est documenté ci-dessus, ont été fixées au monument. Le cénotaphe est dans un endroit de choix, qui sert très bien lors des cérémonies du souvenir. Le monument est facile d'accès et est visible à ceux et celles qui circulent en auto ou à pieds. The cenotaph is a large cement structure measuring approximately 30 feet high. It is painted yellow and stands in a small park in close proximity to a local church. Plaques, the text of which is documented above, have been mounted on the monument. The cenotaph has pride of place and is located in an area most suitable to hold remembrance ceremonies as well as for it to be viewed by people driving and walking by.
