Gabriel Gonçalves Themudo personal Coat of Arms is composed by an eagle with two heads and a moor´s head underneath surrounded by a cord of San Francisco.
The coat of arms is placed in a magestic fountain in Belem (Fonte Luminosa)in front of Jerónimos Monastery together with 49 other coat of arms of important personalities from the time of Portuguese Discoveries. The fountain was designed by Cottinelli Telmo and built in 1940 for the Portuguese World Exhibition. There´s very little information about the fountain and the Coat of Arms and most available information refers to a total of 32 Coat of arms of Portuguese inland and Overseas provinces wich is wrong. These coat of arms can be seen in the gardens around the fountain designed with flowers and bushes.
Gabriel Gonçalves Themudo was a knight of King Afonso V´s army. Very little is known about this character but we found a reference in a 1624 book called "Noticias de Portugal" (News from Portugal) where we can find the history of the names and coat of arms of the noble families of the kingdom ( (

In this book it say´s and i quote "while our was attaking Tanger (Morocco), a Moor came doing a great uproar and demanding a challenge. Gabriel Gonçalves Themudo immediately came up and knocked him down of his horse cutting his head and presenting it to King D. Afonso. The King gave him as coat of arms, an eagle with two heads with a Moor's head underneath and a cord of San Francisco around because this valuable success happened in San Francisco´s day.
