This is a slightly odd sign to use on a pub and likely to be a variation on plain old 'Grapes' or 'Vine'.

This is probably an allusion to the the fable of the fox and the grapes.

The fox had been trying to reach a bunch of grapes to eat them. However, he struggled but could not reach them however he tried. Disappointed, but not wanting to appear a failure, he declared them to be sour and not worth eating.

At the time of writing, this pub is closed and a new owner sought.
