Also known as Frontier Fort or Hupp Homestead, it is an early stone house which afforded protection against Indian attacks.

Per the NRHP application, the Hupp House is still owned by the original family. It was built around 1755 to afford protection for early settlers against Indian attacks. The walls are two foot thick with three "loopholes" to allow defense. A water source was located inside the house in case of siege. The house is a fine example of "Germanic masonry building practices in the Shenandoah Valley".
Nearby VA historical marker reads: "1755, is the old Hupp Homestead. It was used as a fort in Indian attacks."
There a second stone building of simimlar construction nearby (70 feet), the Hupp Stillhouse, which is not part of the NRHP listing, thus be careful to photograph the right place for your visit. Both were part of the original farm, but the latter was sold outside the family.
