In the Newton Centre section of Newton, where Centre Street and Cyprus Street meet, is a church where the Lutheran Church of the Newtons is located.
The congregation in Newton had its first service on December 16, 1945, at 430 Walnut St, and it was chartered May 26, 1946. The congregation grew, and had to find a larger space. On November 6, 1949, the present church was purchased and dedicated. I'm not sure when the building was actually built - the date below is the dedication date. The congregation went through various reorganizations of the Lutheran Church, and is now part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The congregation seems pretty active, with fellowship and advent social gatherings. They also sponsored a Kids4Peace Benefit Concert.
Church service is on Sunday at 9:30 am, with fellowship following.
