This monument for the Battery G, 1st Missouri Light Artillery is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. This is one of two markers to Battery G, 1st Missouri Light Artillery on the battlefield. The Battery G, 1st Missouri Light Artillery was organized St. Louis, Missouri from the 1st Missouri Infantry, and mustered into Federal service on September 1, 1861.

1st. Ohio L.A.,
3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 14th Army Corps.





Text on the rear of the monument:



This battery, Capt Alexander
Marshall commanding, occupied this
Position from about 5:30 P.M. on the 19th
Till about 9:00 A.M. on the 20th of Sept.
1863, but was not engaged. It then
Moved to the left and rear taking
Several positions upon the hills in the
Woods, as ordered by Gen’l Negley.
From one of these positions it fired
About 50 rounds. Bout 1:00 P.M. it
Moved to Rossville under order
Of the division commander.
