William Mullins was a successful cobbler in Dorking, Surrey. Born around 1752, he married Alice and had two children, one girl, Priscilla and one son, Joseph.

William, for reasons unknown gave up this lifestyle and took his wife, two children and his favorite servant Robert Carter to Rotherhithe where he boarded the ship for his travels to America.

This plaque is on 58 West Street is the house he lived in. The building now shows its age, but it is in keeping with other building along this part of West Street. This building is now empty.
