By the 1920's assembly lines made cars affordable for the middle class. The American workplace was transformed by gasoline engines. By the 1920's motorized vehicles were replacing their horse drawn counterparts. The everyday landscapes changed to accomodate cars. Garages replaced barns and street lights were installed. There were shopping malls with parking lots. Gas stations, drive-ins and motels appeared around the nation. rural people, not city people, were the first to buy cars. Automobles reduced isolation and gasoline powered vehicles made farm work much easier.
