This monument to the 104th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. This marker indicates the position of the 104th during the night of September 19-20, 1863. This is one of three markers to the 104th Illinois on the battlefield. A 4th marker is located in the Lookout Mountain unit.

Short Physical Description

2'6" x 1'2" x 2'6" high rectangular slab of dark Quincy granite. Rock-faced sides; polished & inscribed front. "Illinois" is in large raised letters on beveled top. Marks unit's position during night of Sept. 19-20, 1863.

Marker is located in the Chickamauga Battlefield along Glenn-Kelly Road, map site #188.
