Coverdale came about to support local ranches in Southwestern New Mexico around 1889. The Victor Land and Cattle Company purchased the Cloverdale Ranch and as other ranches were formed the community grew to a population near 200 people. Cloverdale had the destinction of having the Southern most Post Office in New Mexico (1912-1943). The old store (built in 1918) is the remaining building for the town and is privately owned. There is parking at the site.
