This is a limestone cross erected in the grounds of the New Big School at the corner of Little Church Street and Lawrence Sheriff Street. It is hexagonal in form and surrounded by a low box hedge. The base is a set of four steps leading to an hexagonal block with cove and pediment upon which is the inscription. The shaft of the cross is also hexagonal with an open-work head stone, gabled with six faces, three of which are open and three with a cross. This is surmounted by a foliated and chamfered shaft.
The inscription reads:
IN REMEMBRANCE

THEIR NAMES ARE RECORDED
IN THE MEMORIAL CHAPEL
New Big School was designed and built in 1885 by William Butterfield in a Gothic style, he also designed the New Quad Buildings, in red brick with stone bands and dressings. The roof is Welsh slate with large end gables in chequer work brick and stone.
