On Feb 1, 2001 a deadly accident shut down the Angels Flight railway. For a while, the only way to get to the top of the hill was to take the 153 stairs. The railway did not reopen until Mar 15, 2010.

I only took the stairs down, but I can imagine that going up on a warm California day in office attire would not be pleasant. When I visited, several locals were up to the challenge and were taking the stairs.
