With Fort Henry itself, the Cathcart Tower on Cedat Islan, Shoal tower in Kingston Harbour, and Murney Tower about 1km West, Fort Frederick forms the Kingston Fortifications. Distinct from most Martellos, as the Canadian ones had roofs due to the climate. The intent was for these roofs to be removed for battle.
This site is part of the Kingston Fortifications, part of the Rideau Canal UNESCO world heritage site (this building being index # 1221-003) This tower, along with the Murney, are open during the summer tourist season (May 24 holiday - Canadian Thanksgiving (mid October)) Although the museum proper is closed, the grounds, which also form part of the Royal Military College of Canada, can be accessed during daylight hours & make for a very pleasant walk.
