In the spring of 2009, cyclists in and around various Canadian cities were invited to join the local ‘Go Green Go Dutch Go Bike’ event, hosted by officials at the Netherlands Embassy in Ottawa and Consulates General in Toronto and Vancouver and by Consulates in other places.
The events draw attention to the Dutch bicycle experience, which has been woven into the cultural fabric of the Netherlands.
The Dutch Royal family appreciates its bicycles and cabinet ministers are seen arriving at work with files strapped to their bicycle’s carrier. Dutch officials are quite willing to show local people how they experience Canada on a bicycle. For example, Ambassador Wim Geerts lead by example by taking participants via the Pretoria bridge to the west side of the Bank Street bridge where he presented and unveiled an original Dutch "mushroom" signpost, found all over the Netherlands, to direct bicycle and foot traffic. The ambassador then moved on towards Dow's Lake and a finish at the memorial statue of the Man with Two Hats in Commissioner's Park.
The wording on the signpost reads as follows:
"This sign post was presented by the Netherlands ambassador to Canada as a gift of friendship and in recognition of our mutual interest in cycling. Spring 2009"

Deze ANWB Paddenstoel werd geschonken aan de stad van Ottawa, Ontario door de Nederlandse ambassadeur in Canada.
In het voorjaar van 2009, werden fietsers in en rond verschillende Canadese steden uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan een lokaal ‘Go Green Go Dutch Go Bike’ evenement, gehost door ambtenaren van consulaten generaal in Toronto en Vancouver en de Nederlandse ambassade in Ottawa en door consulaten in andere plaatsen.
De gebeurtenis vestigd aandacht op de Nederlandse fiets ervaring, die zijn verweven in het culturele erfgoed van Nederland.
De Nederlandse Koninklijke familie waardeert het fietsen en kabinet en ministers worden gezien op de fiets op weg naar het werk met bestanden vastgebonden onder de snelbinder. Nederlandse ambtenaren zijn heel bereid om lokale mensen laten zien hoe zij Canada ervaren op een fiets. Bijvoorbeeld, ambassadeur Wim Geerts, door het voorbeeld te nemen voor de deelnemers. Fietsend naar de Pretoriabrug aan de westkant van de Bank Street bridge alwaar hij een originele Nederlandse "ANWB Paddenstoel" Wegwijzer onthulde die men overal in Nederland kan vinden langs de fietspaden. De ambassadeur fietste door naar Dow's Lake en eindigde bij het memorial standbeeld van de Man met twee hoeden in Commissioner's Park.
