This mark is located on the bridge across the Firehole River. The cap is located at the northeast end of the bridge in the south sidewalk about 16 feet south of highway centerline. The cap was set by the National Geodetic Servey in 1987 and was marked MEERTENS 2. About three feet to the west is a second cap. It appears that PY0779 (MEERTENS) must have been set in error on the bridge deck beyond the expansion joint so its location was not stable, so then PY0802 (MEERTENS 2) was set on the stable bridge abutment part of the bridge.
