Das repräsentativste Fachwerkgebäude in Ummerstadt ist das Rathaus. Die Jahrezahl 1558, am massiven Sandsteinsockel, dokumentiert das ursprüngliche Baujahr des Gebäudes.
Im Jahr 1632 - während des 30-jährigen Krieges - brannte das Rathaus, sowie die meisten Gebäude in Ummerstadt, nieder.
1682 beschlossen die Stadträte ein neues Rathaus auf dem bestehenden Sandsteinsockel zu errichten. Das Alter des Rathausglöckchens kann nicht genau benannt werden. Aus alten Überlieferungen geht hervor, dass die Glocke während des 30-jährigen Krieges aus Sicherheitsgründen im Wehrturm am Friedhof aufbewahrt war. Nun hängt sie wieder im Rathaus.
Auf eine lange Tradition kann auch das Wirtshaus im Erdgeschoss verweisen. Seit 1599 sollen hier "Schlundwirte", von Beruf meistens Metzger und Bäcker, ansässig gewesen sein. Auch heute hat das Wirtshaus Bestand.

1682 the city council decided to build a new town hall on the existing sandstone base. The age of the city hall bell can not be precisely identified. Ancient records show that the bell was kept during the 30-year war for safety in the tower at the cemetery. Now it hangs again at the City Hall.
A long tradition may also refer the pub downstairs. Since 1599 have "Maw hosts", mostly by professional butchers and bakers, a resident. Today the inn is still existing.
