Casimir Gzowski 1813-1898: Master Engineer
What young insurgent in the Polish Revolt of 1830, exiled to America by the Russian rulers of his homeland, rose as a civil engineer, railway builder, and industrialist in Canada and then became a colonel of militia, an honorary aide to Queen Victoria, and a recipient of a knighthood? Of course — Sir Casimir Stanislaus Gzowski, whose great-grandson, Peter Gzowski, became a well-known Canadian broadcaster during the last quarter of the twentieth century.
