The Murney tower is a museum, the Fort Frederick tower is on the grounds of the Royal Military College of Canada, while the Cathcart Tower is on nearby Cedar Island. Distinct from most Martellos, as the Canadian ones had roofs due to the climate. The intent was for these roofs to be removed for battle.
This site is part of the Kingston Fortifications, part of the Rideau Canal UNESCO world heritage site (this building being index # 1221-005) While this particular tower is not open to the public, two other towers of these fortifications - the Murney and Fort Frederick - are open during the summer tourist season (May 24 holiday - Canadian Thanksgiving (mid October))
