This marker to the 25th Illinois Infantry Regiment is located north of Vinyard-Alexander Rd and east of Lafayette Rd in the Chickamauga National Military Park. Parking is avaliable on Vinyard-Alexander Rd at Lafayette Rd.

This marker is dedicated to the 25th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. Marks unit's position on Sept. 19, 1863, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The 25th Illinois Infantry was organized at Saint Louis, Missouri and mustered into Federal service on August 4, 1861.

Short Significance Description:

Marker contributes to national significance of park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among veterans & related groups to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

Short Physical Description

7'6" x 4'4" x 4'6" rock-faced monument consisting of rectangular granite block with an inscribed polished front on 1'6" high granite base. The tops of both pieces are beveled. Marks unit's position on Sept. 19, 1863, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
