Islington underground station's main claim to fame is that it has the longest escalator in the United Kingdom and that someone once skiied down it!
The station was opened by the City and South London Railway in 1901 and, at that time, formed the northern terminus of its new extension from Moorgate. The name derives from a local pub called the Angel Inn.
The "Angel, Islington", is probably known to many, in the UK at least, as a Monopoly property.
