The Francis Howell Cemetery is the largest cemetery in the conservation area and remains active. The area used occupied by farming communities until World War II when the land was converted to a TNT plant in support of the war effort. The area is now a conservation area managed by Missouri Department of Conservation. The cemetery has a couple hundred graves with some in the past few years. The oldest graves are to the back of the cemetery including that of Francis Howell, an early settler in the area.
