St. Boniface is a historic Catholic church on the west side of Evansville, IN. It is located on Wabash Ave between Virginia Ave and Michigan Ave.
The church building is the second building for the parish, as the first burned down in 1902. The current building was completed in 1903.
St. Boniface was the 4th Catholic church in Evansville, this one being in a primarily German district.
The architecture of the building is largely Byzantine with hint of Roman as well.
In the basement of the church is an area called St Boniface Grotto, designed after the Our Lady of Lourdes in Lourdes, France. It was innudated with a flood in 1937 and shut down. It was remodeled and reopened in the 1970s. For a while it was used weekly for a mass, but now is just a tour stop a few times each year.
