This life-sized marble bust of Commodore James Graham Goodenough depicts him as a man perhaps in his 50s with long sideburns wearing a cloak, medals and a sash. It is located in the Discover Greenwich Center in Greenwich and is open daily 10-5 and is free of charge. See their website at (

The placard accompanying the work reads:
"Commodore James Graham
Goodenough, Victor, Count Gliechen,
1877
Goodenough died on active service
off the coast of Australia in 1875 after
a long career in the Navy, having
seen service in both the Crimean
War and the China War. The sculptor,
Count Gleuchen, was Queen Victoria's
nephew and originally in the Navy
before turning to art."

"Educated at Westminster School, Goodenough joined the Royal Navy in 1844 and went on to serve in the Second Opium War being present at the capture of Canton in 1857. Promoted to Captain in 1863, he was given command of HMS Victoria and then HMS Minotaur. He served as Commander-in-Chief, Australia Station from 1873 and died aboard HMS Pearl off the coast of Australia from wounds inflicted from poisoned arrows in an attack by natives of the Santa Cruz Islands."
