A large, stone slab from the early 19th century can be found out front of this historic prison and NRHP site. This was actively used to tether horses drawing wagons when delivering prisoners.

I was pretty sure this was for horses after I glimpsed the metal ring attached to it. A brief conversation with the county worker opening up for the day confirmed my suspicions. The reddish, gravestone-looking stone is about 2 inches from the old-fashioned stone curb and implanted firmly in the ground, surrounded by the brick sidewalk.
