Birthplace Of Iron Ore
Benefication In Minnesota

Coleraine - 1907

Here at Trout Lake fifty years ago Oliver Iron Mining Company research engineers and mining men first successfully operated a small concentrating plant to prove that Minnesota's low-grade iron ores could be improved sufficiently for use in producing America's iron and steel.

To date the work begun here has provided an additional 450,000,000 tones of iron ore for Minnesota, established jobs today for more than 9,000 miners and gives a basis of economic existence for nine Minnesota towns located on two iron ranges.  All Minnesotans and the nation as whole, have benefited from the foresight and perseverance of these pioneers.
