Along the many pathways that curve throughout the zoo, tucked into gardens and natural habitat, are marble slabs mounted on short wooden posts. They offer quotations related to birds and animals, conservation and the outdoors.
The marble slabs are green, with white lettering, outlined with a narrow white border. This quotation is from Thomas Jefferson and is a gentle, but stern warning about handling our environment. It reads:
