The city of Ipoh is on the Kuala Lumpur to the Thai border rail line. The city train station was completed in 1917, designed by the British architect A. B. Hubback, who also designed other public building in the Malay States. In style it is described as "Neo-Moorish/Mughal/Indo-Saracenic/Neo-Saracenic", but, however it is described, it is an impressive building. Surprising large for the relatively small town. The upper floors of the building are a hotel, the 'Majestic Station Hotel', somewhat run down I am told. The station was renovated and modernised in the 2000s. Used by both passengers (2.5 hours to KL express), and freight.
From here there are trains to other destinations in Malaysia, and to the Singapore and Thai borders.
