"A modest frame church was first built on this site in 1875. Within 12 years the congregation outgrew the small church and in 1887 Mr Adam Harvey, an architect and member of the congregation, was enlisted to design a new church on the same site. Both Prime Minister Sir John A. MacDonald and Governor General Lord Lansdowne made donations to the construction of the new church. Though renovated in 1948, the limestone stone Gothic Revival church still retains the original stained glass windows, altar piece, and beautiful massive beams and woodwork. A Casavant pipe organ was installed the same year."

The text of a plaque by the City of Ottawa, designating this church as heritage property, reads as follows:
"Built to serve Ottawa's growing German-speaking Lutheran community, this church replaced an earlier wood frame structure, on the same site. The church's pointed arch windows, butresses and tower are typical of the Gothic Revical style. The additions on either side of the bell tower were designed by noted Ottawa architect W. E. Noffke, a member of the congregation".
